Let’s get saucy! If you are anything like me, there is nothing better than a dish with a great sauce that you can grab a piece of crusty bread and dip right into the saucy deliciousness. One of my absolute favorite sauces is a Portuguese Molho de Vinho Tino or a Red Wine Sauce. This is one of those recipes that we never seem to tire of. We especially love it with Carne Picada and served over Portuguese Rice. The sauce has so much flavor that it really doesn’t need anything other than a simple house salad to go along.

- 1 cup of beef broth
- 4 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 cup Portuguese red wine or red wine of your choice
- ¼ cup of soy sauce
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and add the garlic.
- Stir until the garlic is slightly browned.
- Stir in the flour and mix well until golden brown.
- Add the remainder of ingredients while stirring constantly.
- Stir until the consistency of the sauce is slightly thick.
- Remove bay leaf.
- The consistency is not meant to be very thick, add more red wine if needed.
- Perfect with Beef or Pork.

October 21, 2013 at 9:33 amThis is one of my favorite sauces, Isabel! I don’t know why I don’t think to make it more often. I tend to throw a little red wine in the gravy and call it red sauce but that just doesn’t match up. 🙂
