Today on Family Foodie Featured Friday: Stacy from Food Lust People Love
Who is Stacy: I am a global nomad, with almost 26 years living overseas (as an adult) under my belt. I love exploring new countries and their markets, cooking and writing, and writing about cooking, so on my blog I share my expat life enriched by food. Almost every post includes a story of my life and travels, sometimes the glamor of expat life and sometimes the hardship, but also a recipe and instructions with process photos to help the reader make the dish. I also like matchmaking among expat friends as they move about the planet, finding them new friends and helping folks make connections. After spending two-thirds of my life as an expat, my network is strong and I’m pretty good at it. I’ve had bedrooms in 17 countries but home right now is the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Dubai.
Her favorite #SundaySupper theme so far: Are you asking me to choose a favorite child here? This is tough. I thoroughly enjoy each and every Sunday Supper theme because they challenge me! From the very first week I joined the group, when the theme was “Bucket List” and I made individual lemon soufflés that I had been meaning to get to for years, I knew this was the group for me. But I guess the week I had the most fun was the local market theme. I was visiting a dear friend in Paris and we shopped and baked a classic French cherry clafoutis together.
Her most popular #SundaySupper post: My most viewed post is a relatively recent one from the back-to-school week of lunchbox friendly recipes. I made homemade dough pizza rolls with pepperoni and tomato sauce, and wrote about the best lunch lady, Madam Wong, who cooked and served with love at the International School of Kuala Lumpur.
Fun Fact: Being from Southern Louisiana, I grew up in a family obsessed by food but we didn’t know we were obsessed. Each meal was created by a flurry of activity in the kitchen that often started with my grandfather harvesting the fresh ingredients from his immense backyard garden. Even as we ate, we discussed other times we’d eaten that meal – Was this gumbo better or not as good or the same as past gumbos? – or a future meal – What are we making for Sunday dinner? – or other food related topics, like what was on special at the local market or how well the fig tree was producing and how many jars of fig preserves could my grandmother plan to put up that year? (This was important because her fig preserves were legend and we all wanted our share!)
I discovered much later that families from other places didn’t focus on food like we did. Then when I started blogging, I found a whole new food-obsessed family online! Which is another reason I love being part of Sunday Supper! We truly do gather round the family table each week as we read, comment on and share each other’s recipes.
