Today on Family Foodie Featured Friday: Beate from The Not So Cheesy Kitchen
Who is Beate: I am native of Tuttlingen, Germany and together with my family has chose Portland, Oregon as home. Prior to moving to Portland Ron and I lived in Chicago. Both of our children are native Oregonians – something they are proud of :). I started to blog in 2008 as both of my children have Classic Galactosemia which is a rare metabolic disorder; it’s original intent was to give those with newly diagnosed babies as well as other affected by this disorder a glimpse of what life is like. Over time, and since Classic Galactosemia is treated soley through diet my blog evolved into the Foodie Blog it is today. The recipes on my blog are mainly dairy free; some include cheeses our girls are allowed to eat such as Emmenthaler, Gruyere, Parmesiano Regiano, etc.
Her favorite #SundaySupper theme so far: This is a hard question but being pressed for an answer I will say it is Gulasch from 5 ingredients or less event in September 2012. I especially like this event as it brought back so many memories of my Omi.
Her most popular #SundaySupper post: My most popular #SundaySupper recipe is the Vegan Caprese Salad I made in 2012 for the #SundaySupper Labor Day theme – instead of mozzarella cheese {which is never allowable for our girls}, I have used tofu. The result was fantastic.
Awards/Features: I have just recently been a co-winner of the Cook the Books event – can you see just how excited I am?!
Fun Fact: I only speak German with my children and we are raising them bi-lingual. We love to spend time outdoors, and travel. Besides having fun on The Not So Cheesy Kitchen, I am involved in the German community in PDX through Zeitgeist Northwest, am an avid advocate for newborn screening, as this it what saved the lives of both of our children, and am an attorney in private practice.

October 20, 2013 at 5:11 amMy favorite part of Sunday Supper is all of the wonderful people who are part of the family. I particularly love reading posts from folks who have traveled or live outside their country of origin, like Bea. I love the way she is able to adapt recipes to make them healthy for her girls and I am sure she is an inspiration to many families trying to do the same!

November 22, 2013 at 8:11 pmYou’re such a loving momma, Bea! I love seeing the photos of you and your family. It’s very cool that you only speak German to your girls. I know that they’ll appreciate the time and effort you put in so that they can speak a second language. I wish my Cantonese were better but I rebelled against my parents as a kid by refusing to learn/speak it. Sigh. What a brat, eh?
