The Foodie Army Wife logoToday on Family Foodie Featured Friday: Constance from The Foodie Army Wife

Who is Constance:  Hi all! My name is Constance Smith and I am the owner and author of The Foodie Army Wife.  As my website indicates, I am the wife of a soldier and I have been for over 22 years. We’ve lived all over including Germany and most recently moved this summer from Alaska to Alabama.

I began my online life in 1998 with a “homepage,” transitioned to blogging in 2006 as “MrsMamaHen,” and officially launched The Foodie Army Wife January 1st, 2013. I love teaching and do so in many ways – whether it is teaching about food, homeschooling my children, or teaching classes for army spouses through volunteer work.

Over the years, I have met many people as an army wife. I love that we can share our traditions, cultures and food with one another. Our army friends become our family, and our traditions grow over time. I have “sisters” in Alaska, Texas, North Carolina and more. A soup recipe from my neighbor in Germany. A chicken recipe from my Guamanian neighbor in North Carolina. It is a unique life, and food brings us all together.

Her favorite #SundaySupper theme so far:  My favorite Sunday Supper theme so far, was from Jan 19th 2013 where we took a walk down memory lane and shared recipes from our childhoods and family favorites. I love tradition and history, so that was right up my alley. I shared Corn Casserole – a dish that my mother made and her mother before her. That dish is the single dish that is the smell of the holidays for me. I loved all of the memories that were shared by the contributors for that event. So sentimental and sweet.

Her most popular #SundaySupper post:  My most popular Sunday Supper post so far is my Drunk Moose Meatballs. It was for a tapas party last winter, and I have made that recipe for many events since. It has won cooking contests, been pinned and shared many times, and is regularly still one of the most visited recipes on my website. Of course, I can’t make them out of moose meat anymore, but they taste just as good made in the more “tame” beef variety.

Fun Fact:  When not in the kitchen, I feel most home in the great outdoors. I love hiking, hunting, geocaching, gardening, & photographing nature and wildlife. Needless to say, living in Alaska was a dream come true, and I will forever miss living in the Last Frontier.

    Hi Constance,

What a lovely little story, so cute, and that is so cool you have travelled a lot. I would love to run in every state, if not do a marathon in every state. You have lived in many, which is awesome! It is amazing how much cultures change between them!

    Drunk meatballs look amazing….yum!

Hi Tina. When we were in Alaska, we were much further north, up in the Fairbanks area.

Conni, I adore you and your blog! I know I say that with every Featured Friday member – this just goes to show what an amazing group of people we have in Sunday Supper! Girl, the food you cook is amazing and I always love hearing about your family, your travels, and seeing your incredible photos. Your mom is beautiful and I love your drunken moose meatball recipe (although I would make the tamer beef version – I know, I’m not too adventurous when it comes to meat!)
