Yum Yum Sauce #SundaySupper

Yum Yum Sauce

I have a secret. It’s a sauce.  One that every child loves!  I’m not kidding.  Not only that, they eat things that they would never, ever, ever eat if you tell them they can dip it in this sauce.  I’m not so sure that they even like the actual sauce as much as they like the name… seriously, even adults will eat almost anything dipped in Yum Yum Sauce.

I discovered it many moons ago.  When my older two were young, we went out to dinner with Ron’s parents and in an effort to keep the kids busy, we decided to go to a Japanese Steakhouse.  You know the ones, the chef stands in the middle and cooks and throw things all over the place. It keeps little ones so entertained, they hardly even realize that we are asking them to sit still for over two hours.

Well, on that particular night, Ron ordered his Steak, I ordered my Salmon and we ordered the kids Chicken.  As everything was up in flames in front of us, out came this little bowl filled with an Orange Sauce.   Ronnie, immediately dipped his finger in it and said “Yum.”  When his Chicken came out, he dipped it in the sauce and again “Yum.”  Ron gave him a piece of steak and again “Yum.”  Determined that my kids would love fish, I put a piece of Salmon in front of him.  He diligently dipped it in the sauce and said “Yum.”  This was just amazing but who was I to mess with such a good thing.  I placed a piece of broccoli in front of him, after inspecting it, he dipped it in the sauce… “Yum.” Green beans…”Yum.”

I realized at that moment, that this must be some type of Magic Sauce.  We are known for the No Thank You Bite at our home but I wasn’t hearing any No Thank You’s just Yum!  I asked our chef what kind of magic sauce this was and he replied “Yum Yum.”  Was he talking baby talk?  He reassured me he was not and that the name of the sauce was Yum Yum Sauce.

I had to have the recipe!  When I asked our chef, he blurted out mayo, paprika, tomato paste, and that was about it.  I spent the next couple of months perfecting my Yum Yum sauce.  It was magic, no matter what I put in front of my kids, if they could dip it in Yum Yum Sauce, they ate it!  After many attempts, I perfected it and today we not only use it as a dip but also as a marinade.  It is fabulous as a marinade on grilled Chicken and Fish.

Reis was in the kitchen creating some awesome Reisipes this week.  I love that he got me a glass of wine to go with my Yum Yum Chicken.  He can cook for me any day!

Yum Yum Salmon

I hope your family enjoy’s the Yum as much as we do!

Omg, I just love reisipes. That made me gasp and how cool his name sounds like that 😉 That yum yum sauce sounds delicious and I’m not gonna lie, we are totally trying this out. Maybe I can get the only picky eater I have left to try some things with the yum yum sauce. It reminds me a little of comeback sauce which is one of those sauces that when the kids were little I put everything in. For the record, your sauce is much more elegant and yummy sounding! haha
Love the pic of Reis, concentrating so hard.

My little guy is a dipper too. I’ll have to try this, but I am not a big mayo person, so may swap in some Greek yogurt. Pinning it!

I don’t like mayonnaise so I never have it in the house, much to my husband’s dismay. I think I might surprise him and get some to make this sauce. It would make his day! Thanks for sharing.

I make a sauce we call “fry sauce” that is also mayo/tomato based, but yours sounds better. It’s funny how kids will eat more when there is something to dip it in!

I am not a person that normally feels the need to comment on a recipe. To be completely, bluntly honest, I get very annoyed by the people that say the recipe was ok but actually they changed most of the ingredients so therefore didn’t actually make the original recipe and (much less annoyed but still a little peeved) by the comments that are based on looks alone. (I really want to know what people thought after actually making the original recipe) Any how now that my silly rant is over I will say that I LOVE this sauce.
*It is very close to what I get at my local Japanese restaurant. It really does need to set overnight.
*The sauce was a little sweet so it really complimented my shrimp.
**IT MAKES A LOT! Though I love it, I don’t think that I could ever use it all before it would go bad.
    * I used Hellman’s mayo and fresh lime juice (I”M not sure if it made a difference or not but it seems to be important in other similar recipes)
    * over all, it totally rocked!

You have to use japanese Kewpie mayo to get this perfect! They say mayo at the restaurant but almost every one of the chefs told us Kewpie!
