Portuguese Poutine is the perfect dish to enjoy during football season. So fun and delicious!
It’s National Sunday Supper Day and I couldn’t be more proud. I get a little emotional just thinking about it. Four years ago, on this Sunday, we enjoyed planning collaborating and executing our first #SundaySupper Progressive Dinner. (whatever you do, please don’t look at those pictures. I can’t bring myself to update them because it represents where we began and how far we have come.) We have grown in leaps and bound and I am so proud that every week, we are spreading the Sunday Supper Movement and encouraging families to spend one day a week, shopping, cooking and enjoy #SundaySupper together. It makes a difference in not only what we eat but in the conversations we have with our families.
I have had the opportunity to meet the most amazing individuals through this journey. Our Sunday Supper tastemakers and community are some of the most genuine and gracious people I know. Don’t get me started on their dedication to creating family friendly and delicious recipes. This is one talented group of food bloggers. It is an honor to virtually cook along with them every week for #SundaySupper.
When we first applied for the recognition of National Sunday Supper Day, we knew we wanted a special partner to celebrate this honorary day with us. Idaho® potatoes immediately came to mine. We couldn’t imagine a brand that could be a better fit to feature around the family table on this day! Not only do we love their delicious potatoes, we have been honored with their support and partnership.

Have you taken the Sunday Supper Pledge? Join us and commit to focusing on family table around the family table in 2016. It is the best gift we can give our families.

- 1 pound yellow skin golden flesh Idaho® potatoes or potatoes of your choice
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 small chorizo links (hard Portuguese or Spanish chorizo, do not use Mexican style chorizo)
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 4 teaspoons paprika
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
- 1 cup white wine
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons parsley, minced (optional)
- 1 cup cheddar cheese curds
- fresh ground sea salt and pepper to taste
- Preheat oven to 425º
- Slice the potatoes into one inch cubes and place in a large bowl
- Slice the chorizo in thin rounds
- Add the olive oil, chorizo, garlic powder and paprika to the potatoes.
- Stir until well coated.
- Place on a large sheet pan or cast iron baking pan. Make sure to spread the potatoes evenly
- Place in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the potatoes are crispy and golden brown
- In a large skillet on medium high heat add 1 tablespoon butter, minced garlic and saute until garlic is browned
- Approximately 5 minutes
- Add the white wine turn heat to low and simmer until sauce is reduced in half. Approximately 8-10 minutes
- Add the remaining tablespoon butter to another skillet and melt the butter. Crack the eggs and cook sunnyside up. Approximately 2-2½ minutes over medium heat
- Assemble the poutine, either on a large platter or 4 small plates. Layer, potatoes, eggs, chorizo sauce and chorizo, cheese curds and minced parsley if desired.
- Season with fresh ground sea salt and pepper to taste.
This was on dish I couldn’t wait to share with you. Not only is it a new favorite at our house, I have to admit, it is my new obsession. My boys claim it is the best Game Day Snack during football season. You can make it fancy and make individual plating or can can do like us, make a larger platter of it and let everyone enjoy the poutine fun.

Oh my… try not to drool. The combination of the garlic, chorizo, wine sauce and the egg. It is a match made in heaven. Truth be told, this dish is so delicious, you can make it for a game day or a party. Just leave out the eggs- they are too much work and get cold easily if you want to serve a big crowd. The Idaho® potatoes truly are the superstars of this dish. We made a big batch for the football playoffs and they were a huge hit!
I have made these chorizo potatoes without the eggs and cheese curds and they are absolutely fantastic. The key to making them crispy is using a larger baking sheet or cast iron roaster. Spread them out so they can bake nice and crispy! Another great tip is to use yellow skin golden flesh Idaho® potatoes. They are so soft and buttery on the inside but crisp up perfectly with a bit of olive oil and seasoning. They happen to be my new favorite. Look for the Idaho Potato logo on the bags at your local grocers.
