Today on Family Foodie Featured Friday: Tammi from Momma’s Meals

Momma's Meals Button

Who is Tammi:  I’m a wife, mother, sister, daughter, cousin and best friend. My family is the most important thing to me, however food runs a close second! I’ve been a stay at home mom for over three years now and though it’s challenging at times, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I left my career in finance to raise my family when I was pregnant with my first and I haven’t looked back since. Now with a beautiful daughter hanging off my leg and my new infant son strapped to my stomach I still manage to trudge through the kitchen and make my family fresh and healthy meals.

Though there are times I miss the office and social environment, staying home has introduced a whole new world to me; it brought me closer to my family, it taught me my love for cooking, and a whole new appreciation for wine! I love crafting, cooking, reading and entertaining. I host dinner at least once a month for friends and family, but to “zone” out and just be Tammi, I have a secret love for drama/reality TV!

Her favorite #SundaySupper theme so far:  I had a hard time with this question because I’ve been taking part in 90% of the #SundaySupper themes for a year and a half now! Though I loved the theme I hosted, Chef Inspired Dishes, my favorite one was Gifts from the Kitchen, and my Beef Barley Soup in a Jar. I loved that week because it taught me to think outside the box for gift giving last year.  Now that I have kids, I have to give a lot more “small gifts” to people, like my daughter’s pre-school providers, that special friend that watches my kiddo for me while I go to an appointment, or who who took me out when this Momma needed to get out.  Those small kinds of gifts that are special and come straight from the heart…and straight to the gut! I was able to make all of my gifts last year for these occasions!

Her most popular #SundaySupper post:  I can’t believe it, but Mem’s Broccoli Casserole for our Retro #SundaySupper, was the winner! I can’t tell you how much that means to me since I featured my late grandmothers recipe; it was even made in the dish she always made it in for us on special occasions. My mom and I were just talking about how, since she passed and we don’t speak to the only family left we have on my father’s side, we will never have access to her recipes. So I hold this one near and dear to my heart!!

Fun Fact:  I used to hate cooking!  Yes, a food blogger who used to despise cooking.  I was the single gal who dined out at least 4 times a week, and up until my husband and I had kids, we continued that trend.  After working 8-10 hours a day, the last thing I wanted to do was come home and cook. We had take out a lot and I relied on my crockpot on other nights.

When I was growing up, my mother cooked homemade meals every night and all I could think was –  “Wow.  That does NOT look like fun”.  She was a stay at home mother of two and ran a daycare with at least four more children, who always got a hearty meal on the table, even if it was the same 5 meals a week!  I actually grew up with a pretty bland pallet and ate the same things everyday.  Since being a stay at home mom and having to cook dinner for my own family, I’ve learnt to appreciate food so much more. I’ve learnt to experiment more with textures and flavors.  I’ve tried more foods in the past three years than I did growing up.  After buying a house with an in-law apartment attached this past year, my mother and I have cooked together a lot.  She has begun going outside of her cooking comfort zone and slowly trying new things that she’s learned from watching me!

Features: My blog name is listed on Southern NH Parenting magazine’s website.
