It’s Back to School Season indeed and we are starting to crave Teriyaki Tuna Rice Bowl with a tad of Yum Yum sauce for Sunday Supper … This time of year has a different meaning depending at the stage of your children’s lives. To some it’s the first day of kindergarten. To others, the first day of High School. And yet to others it is the first day of College. This Back to School Season invokes so many emotions in me. It is the last time that I will have all four of my children at different stages of their lives. My baby is in his last year of grade school. Can you believe that? My second oldest is a Senior in High School and I have one in Middle School and one in College.
I recently spent time helping my daughter get ready to move into her sorority house at University of Florida. What an exciting time for her that brought back so many memories for me. One of our favorite places to eat when we are in Gainesville is The Swamp. Every Gator loves to dine at this landmark restaurant. One of Alexandra’s favorite dishes to order is the Teriyaki Tuna Rice Bowl. I recently tried it for the first time and absolutely loved it. I knew immediately this was one dish that I wanted to duplicate at home. So here is my take on the Teriyaki Tuna Rice Bowl.

- /4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 4 tuna steaks sliced thin
- 4 cups of cooked white rice
- 1 cucumber cut julienne style
- 2 green onions sliced thin
- ½ cup Yum Yum Sauce
- 1 avocado cut into ½ inch cubes (optional)
- Combine the first seven ingredients and refrigerate overnight.
- Remove ⅓ cup for basting, cover and refrigerate.
- Pour remaining marinade into a large resealable plastic bag and add tuna.
- Refrigerate for up to 1 hour.
- Drain and discard marinade.
- Grill tuna over medium heat for 5-6 minutes on each side, basting frequently with reserved marinade.
- Plate the rice in bowls.
- Add Tuna and cucumber.
- Sprinkle with green onions.
- Drizzle with Yum Yum Sauce
- Add Avocado if desired
This recipe for Teriyaki Tuna Rice Bowl is so easy and the Yum Yum Sauce drizzle, while not mandatory, is icing on the cake. Remember how I told you how Yum Yum Sauce makes everything taste amazing. It’s true!

August 31, 2012 at 3:15 amIsabel, I’ve slowly but surely been working through everyone’s posts and I’m still not done (it’s Thursday night, for goodness sakes!). I’m glad to finally be here on your post. The plating of your dish is glorious! I never liked tuna until recently and now I can’t get enough of the stuff – this sounds absolutely delicious. I can’t believe you have four kids and still do all that you do. I’m in complete awe of you!
