Strawberry Smoothie Bowls are an awesome way to start your day! Packed with flavor and nutrition, they will provide the energy you need to get your through your day.

I recently learned something new about myself. I never thought I was one of those people who would eat the same things every day. I like to try new things and I am not much of a routine kind of girl.  Until now.

I have been obsessed with acai, pitaya… really any kind of fruit bowls. They are such a great reward after my morning walk and workout. I love the toppings, the combination of sweet and crunchy gets me every time. I love pineapple, mango, blueberries and strawberries one top. Strawberries! I love strawberries… it dawned on me. How awesome would the base/smoothie mix be if it was packed with strawberries. I had to try it for myself and boy am I glad I did!

So, I started experimenting. Although I love my go to creamy strawberry smoothie recipe, it wasn’t the right consistency for these bowls. I wanted something lighter, yet thicker for the base. I spent some time in the kitchen and came up with the perfect combination. For these amazing bowls, it became clear that the smoothie mixture needed to go back in the freezer and then shaved with a spatula to create the right consistency. This recipe is almost like an icee but it is packed with heart healthy strawberries.

Not only do I love the nutritional aspect of this recipe. It is so delicious, especially if you have fun with the toppings. Florida strawberries are so juicy and delicious and I only wish they were in season year round! They are the superstar of this recipe.

How to Preserve Strawberries

Known as the winter strawberry, Florida strawberries are available from November to April every year. I always freeze Florida Strawberries when they are in season. They are so perfect to use throughout the year in recipes that are packed with nutrition!

It’s true, you can get those other berries grown outside of Florida, but everyone knows that Florida’s unique growing conditions produces the sweetest, juiciest strawberries around! If you’ve had the pleasure of enjoying strawberries grown in Florida, you most likely won’t accept anything else.

  • Freezing – Freeze strawberries whole or sliced and use the frozen berries in place of fresh ones throughout the year. Frozen strawberries are perfect for smoothies. No need to add ice that tends to water down the smoothie.
  • Drying – Sliced strawberries can be dried easily in your oven or a dehydrator. Dried strawberries are a tasty snack kids will love. They are similar to fruit roll-ups, but much healthier without any added sugar! Drying strawberries are ideal for baking. Keep them on hand for things like cakes, quick breads, and cookies.
  • Canning – Preserving strawberry jams, jellies, fruit spreads, syrups, sauces, and more is a wonderful way to stock your pantry with homemade deliciousness to enjoy all year long!
  • Pickling – Use green or ripe berries in pickling brine. This method is very easy to do and a tasty way to preserve strawberries. The contrast of the sweet strawberries with the tangy pickling brine makes a wonderful relish to enjoy in both sweet and savory dishes.Florida Strawberry Growers AssociationFacebook | Google + |Instagram | Pinterest| Twitter| YouTubeWant to learn more about how to preserve strawberries?
