Easy and Delicious Florida Strawberry Pie #SundaySupper

By FamilyFoodie Leave a Comment

This post is sponsored by Florida Strawberry in conjunction with a social media campaign through Sunday Supper LLC. All opinions are my own.

I feel so blessed to work in an industry where I have the opportunity to see and understand the work that goes into goes into farming in our country. I look at food in such a different way after meeting so many of the producers of what we many times take for granted when we walk into our grocery stores. The love, care and responsibility of feeding our nation is apparent every time I come into contact with a new farmer.

I also feel so blessed to live in Florida where so many crops are grown and have the opportunity to see farms filled with produce and cattle throughout our beautiful state. There is nothing better than stepping onto a beautiful strawberry field. The smell alone will keep you coming back but what I love most is bending over, dipping my hand into a strawberry plant with all the stages of strawberries growing on it and in one hand snapping a gorgeous strawberry from the plant. I almost always wonder, will this be the best strawberry I have ever tasted?

What I have learned from spending time on the strawberry fields is that it depends on the climate. Have we had cooler weather? Cool nights produce the most delicious strawberries. Has it rained? Rain can be tough on the crop and will alter the taste a bit. Has it been too warm? We can tell almost immediately by the size and shape of the strawberries. There is so much that can be controlled by the varieties being developed but there is so much that these farmers can not control. Talk about a profession where you have to absolutely love what you are doing because so much of growing strawberries comes down to faith and believing that your are supplying nutrition for families.

I have learned to appreciate these beautiful plants and their fruits. I no longer take them for granted and there is never a time when I bite into a strawberry without thinking about all the work and care behind it.

Yesterday, I spent time in Balm, FL at the University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center learning about the future of Florida Strawberries. We are so close to developing the perfect strawberry here in Florida.

On my way home, I stopped at Goodson’s Strawberry Market. It was packed with people and the line for the fresh Strawberry Shortcake was out the door. If I have ever wondered if strawberries are good for the soul, I got my answer as I looked around and saw everyone smiling either in anticipation or satisfaction. I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you in my Instatories.

After taking it all in,  I bought a flat of strawberries and came home and made pie because these in season strawberries were perfection and I wanted to do something special for my family. This Easy and Delicious Florida Strawberry Pie can be made in a snap. Many times I make it in a prepared pie crust and other times I will go for a no bake version with a prepared graham cracker crust. Either way, I decided Strawberry Pie is good for my soul! You should try it, I bet you will agree with me!

Of course, for each and every one of these delicious strawberry recipes, including our favorite no bake strawberry desserts, we recommend using Florida Strawberries, which are in season from December through April, for the best taste! While you may not be able to join me on the strawberry fields in Florida, you can look on the label at your local grocery store to make sure you are getting the freshest and most delicious strawberries. You can ask your local grocer for Fresh from Florida strawberries!
