It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
Am I the only one that dreads back to school time just a tad? You know, we have to get on a schedule and my older kids have to go back to college. That always tends to make this momma a tad sad.
But I will tell you, mornings are my favorite time and I love spending time with my two younger guys before school starts. It is such a great time of day and it sets the tone for the day. One of our favorite things to do is to make smoothies. Reis is the king of smoothies at our house and this one is one of his favorite masterpieces.

The best part is that when we enjoy it in the morning, we pack it with fruit BUT when we enjoy it as an after school snack — Oh Yeah — we add some chocolate chips. It is amazing either way and the best part is that we love using seasonal fruit whenever we can. This Reisipe is so good with blueberries, raspberries, pineapple, bananas and almost any fruit that can be thrown into a blended. Get those kids loving fresh fruits that are delicious and nutritious!
Find the flavor that your family loves and whip up a smoothie to get your kids excited for the new school year!
Ingredients
- 1 cup low fat milk
- 1 1/2 cup ice cubes
- 1 cup strawberry yogurt
- 4 tablespoons sugar or honey
- 22 strawberries
- *1/2 cup chocolate chips - if making an after school snack
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in blender
- Turn on high and blend for 5 minutes or until well blended.
- We love adding bananas, pineapples, blueberries, raspberries -- and almost any other fruit.

August 17, 2014 at 9:01 amI wish I had thought of smoothies when my youngest was in high school! He barely had time to tie his shoes…and had to shovel in his breakfast! He would have wanted the chocolate chips added for both his breakfast AND snack 🙂

August 17, 2014 at 3:59 pmDread this time of year a tad? More like a lot. I never understand parents who are all excited about it. I think that’s kind of mean.
I used to have a smoothie a lot like this when I came home from high school every day. But I didn’t really like to eat at school, so my mom would make it with strawberries, bananas, and vanilla ice cream, so I didn’t waste away to nothing. It’s one of the only things I miss about those school days.

August 17, 2014 at 4:14 pmI can’t wait to try this Isabel! I was so bummed when I went in to our fridge and our strawberries had gone bad. 🙁 I bet Madison will like this too. Just when I needed new smoothie ideas, perfect timing! Enjoy getting your boys off to school tomorrow.

August 17, 2014 at 4:43 pmLove a good smoothie and yours sounds so good. Even though I homeschool I get a little sad when school starts. Our routine of summer is over and that means back to the scheduled life of a busy family.

August 31, 2014 at 3:15 pmThis sounds like a great recipe but I am diabetic ? The amount of carbs concerns me. I would probably add whey protein.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
