Sunday Supper Childhood Memories #FamilyDinnerTable #SundaySupper

By FamilyFoodie 14 Comments

When I look at our Kitchen Table, it is so much more than just a piece of furniture. It is certainly not the most expensive piece of furniture that we own.   This poor thing has been used and abused. It has scratches and dents on top. It tells a story and in it’s own way, it represents our family and our values.

When I look at it, I don’t see its imperfections. I see comfort, laughter, tears, long talks, encouragement, great food, Sunday Supper recipes and future dreams.  Memories come flooding back of sticky fingers, homework, card games and reminders of our “no thank you bite policy.” Our Kitchen Table has been through ups and downs with us, but it’s always there waiting for us and offers comfort every time we gather Around the Family Table.

This week’s Sunday Supper is a special one because it is the first of a series of events with American Family Insurance.  It is such an honor for the Sunday Supper Movement to partner with a company that understands the importance of family meals, and the impact they have on our families. The #FamilyDinnerTable campaign is built around the belief that the next generation of dreamers starts at the family dinner table.

American Family, is focused on building a community of dreamers. They believe that building the next generation of dreamers starts at the family dinner table. That’s the inspiration behind the Back to the Family Dinner Table campaign. Through Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter, we’ll be sharing family favorite recipes and the stories behind them.

We want all of you to help us with the #FamilyDinnerTable Campaign.  American Family is creating an e-cookbook to inspire families to come back to the table, and we need your help! Share your recipes for your chance to be featured in the cookbook by submitting a family favorite recipe here.  You will be entered to win one of six $100 Williams-Sonoma gift cards. One lucky entry will win one valued at $500! When the e-cookbook comes out later this fall, you’ll be among the first to receive a copy.

The Sunday Supper Team is sharing their favorite childhood meals and memories with us this week.  I can’t wait to see some of these recipes and read about the memories and traditions from their childhood.  Our contributors will also be sharing tips to encourage families to rediscover the power of family meals.  Come join the fun this Sunday at 7pm ET and share your favorite childhood recipes with all of us on twitter.

You know, as I was writing my post for this week, I realized how large the family table really is. I mean, just because you’re not in my dining room, doesn’t mean we’re not sharing the family table. Thank you for sharing your table with me, and I can’t wait for this event!

Looking forward to this event! I even made figuring out what to make a family event before the holiday dinner last week! I can’t wait to write about that story!

I am so excited for this week and for the chance to share a modernized version of one of my childhood favorites. I hadn’t made it in years, and it brought back so many tastes and memories.

I’m so happy to be part of the event! I made pierogies for dinner and I had to call and tell my daughter, “Yours are in the freezer.” Even though she’s grown with a family of her own, I still save her a few!
