Two week’s ago, Charlotte shared that she was throwing a Wedding Shower for her Nanny. Her Nanny had taken such good care of her boys and is now part of the family. I was immediately inspired.
Showers are a celebration of family and new beginnings. I love any excuse to Celebrate and plan a get together with Friends and Family. As you all know by now, I am not much of a Frou Frou kind of Gal and showers are supposed to be Frou Frou. So I turned to 3 of my favorite Sunday Supper contributors Renee Dobbs, Sunithi Selvaraj, Erin Meyer and Liz Lange for help in planning The Recipe for the Perfect Shower.
I have admired Liz, for a long time. She is an amazing Designer and put the much needed “Style” in Maternity Apparel. If you’ve been pregnant, chances are, you have worn something designed by Liz. Her Maternity Line sold at Target is just fabulous! I am so glad she didn’t stop at Maternity Apparel though. Liz’s new line, Completely me by Liz Lange sold by HSN, is out of this world. And I just adore the site that Liz and her sister Jane created, Shopafrolic. They search, they select and make it so easy for us to shop. It is perfect for busy Mom’s like me.
Liz and I have become friends on Twitter and I knew she would have the ultimate tips for throwing the perfect Baby Shower. Here are Liz’s fabulous tips:
I like to do an afternoon tea.
I always serve tea sandwiches – easy to eat and so yummy.
I use tiered stands for mini pastries.
I also love a cobb salad laid out in stripes of ingredients: stripes of avocado, bacon, roast chicken, blue cheese, hard boiled egg whites, yellows, chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes.
I usually use a beautiful cake as a centerpiece on the table.
I love pale pink or pale blue jellybeans (depending on the sex of the baby) in pretty vintage looking glass jars
I also love a bright baby shower theme where the colors are more primary and not pastels.
When the sex of the baby isn’t known I have done all white showers where everything, the flowers, plates, decor, etc are all white. I line the ceiling with white balloons.
Another cute idea when the sex of the baby is not know is a yellow theme. I used daisy’s, rubber duckys and sometimes even yellow daffodils.
Baby blocks are cute spelling things out on the table.
It is cliched but still cute to serve drinks in baby bottles with straws (in lieu of tops.)
I love her shower ideas and can’t wait to try them. The all white idea for a Baby or Bridal Shower is Superb!
Renee, Magnolia Days, will be sharing her Favorite Shower Recipe for Cherry Cream Cheese Bites. I can not wait to see and taste Erin’s, Big Fat Baker, Strawberry Rhubarb Hand Pies. Sunithi, Sue’s Nutrition Buzz, is keeping it Healthy with her Healthy Cream Rice Pudding with Coconut milk and Roasted Nuts. My Portuguese Mother would agree with her. You can’t have a shower, or any celebration, without Rice Pudding!
What are your favorite Baby or Bridal Shower ideas, recipes and decorations? Please share them with us!

April 14, 2012 at 2:04 pmThe easiest but “fancy” thing I do when entertaining is make spa water. A pretty pitcher or a sun tea container with the bottom lined with crushed ice and your choice of sliced fruit and then filled to the top with water. The choices are endless. Sliced strawberries, (firm ones), apples sliced horizontally to show off the star pattern of the seeds, any sliced citrus fruit, star fruit, and even cucumbers can be used. Sprigs of mint or basil can be put in as well. It’s easy and cheap and looks pretty.
