Steak and Salmon The Perfect Combo for #SundaySupper

My boys are such meat eaters. Honestly if you asked what they wanted for dinner, they would probably tell you steak 5 days out of the week.  Ribeye, New York Strip, T-Bone, it just doesn’t matter to them, they love it all!

I feel that it is so important to introduce a variety of food to children at a young age. They also have to learn that although many foods have amazing nutritional value, moderation is important.

We started a “No Thank You Bite” policy when my oldest was a toddler and over the years, it has been the topic of many dinner conversations. The No Thank You Bite means that you have to take one bite of everything Mom cooks.  If you don’t like it, after you take one bite, you just say “No thank you.”  It is amazing how many things kids think they don’t like by looking at it.  Once they actually taste it, hmmm, they realize it’s not so bad. Sometimes they even Love something!

Well that was the case with Salmon. Because of our No Thank You Bite Policy, they are now Salmon lovers.  At our house, you don’t serve Steak without Salmon to go with. It is a great Surf and Turf menu and so easy to prepare.

I always make double what we will eat for Sunday Supper and use the rest to Reinvent Leftovers during the week. It makes my week so much easier when I do so!

TERIYAKI SALMON RECIPE

  • 1 or 2 Salmon Filets (depending if you want leftovers)
  • Teriyaki Marinade of your choice
  • Green Onions sliced thin
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  1. Brush Marinade over the Salmon
  2. Sprinkle with Green Onions and Salt and Pepper
  3. Let Marinade for 1/2 hour
  4. Place on Medium Heat Grill  skin side down and close lid.
  5. Grill for approximately 15 minutes (depending on thickness) Check the middle to see if done.
  6. Do not flip the Salmon. Let the Teriyaki Caramelize on Top.
  7. The skin will stick to the grill. This is perfect. Remove the fillet without the skin.
FAMILY FOODIE STEAK RECIPE
  • Steak (whatever kind you prefer) I usually cook 4 to 6 because we love to Reinvent Leftovers
  • Steak Marinade.  We love Stubb’s Steak Marinade
  • Green Onions sliced thin
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  1. Brush Steak with Marinade
  2. Sprinkle with Green Onions and Salt and Pepper
  3. Let marinade for 1/2 hour
  4. Place on Medium Grill for approximately 25 minutes.  Use Meat Thermometer as this will vary depending on thickness of steak
