Is #SundaySupper A Meal or A Way of Living?

By FamilyFoodie 8 Comments

Yesterday I realized that Sunday Supper has become so much more than a meal for us.   It truly  is what we stand for as a family.  You’re thinking, how could that be? It is one hour out of the week!

For us, it is so much more than that.  Yesterday was the perfect example. Ron took Riley to football and  Reis and I spent the day together.  When you are one of four children, sometimes it is really nice to have some alone time.

We spent the day thrifting and going to our local Farmer’s Market.  We loved this Fish Spread. It really was amazing!  I wonder if we could somehow incorporate it into our Sunday Supper?

We just couldn’t walk by these amazing veggies without purchasing some… total inspiration!

And the smell of Pineapple and Strawberries was too strong to just walk by it. We had to have some.  Boy, were we glad we did! They were so sweet that you would have thought we added sugar.

We couldn’t wait to get home and start chopping and dicing.  What an awesome afternoon Reis and I had in the kitchen.  We prepared Salsa, Salad, Baba Ganoush, Hummus, homemade Croutons and more.

The best part of the day was when Reis looked at me and said “I am so proud of you Mom, I can’t believe what you have done with your blog.”  Wow, I felt like a total role reversal had taken place and at that moment, I realized the power of those words.

Memories were made and I was once again reminded of the power of being grounded in our Mission to bring back Sunday Supper Around the Family Table.  It starts off as one meal a week but soon you realize….. it’s a way of life!  Your family will want to spend more time Around the Family Table with great food!

Totally a way of life. It’s a meal, sure. But bringing your family together any way you can, is a lifestyle, a struggle for many, but oh so very important.
I struggle with five children to find time for each one. Some need more than others, and sometimes it feels like weeks have passed and I haven’t had that alone time. I think I needed this post more than I would have guessed.
You already know we spend loads of time together, but I hadn’t really considered that we don’t spend a lot of it alone one on one, and I plan to fix that. Today. Thank you Isabel. For you, for #SundaySupper, for your friendship and for this particular post. I need all of it.

Oh so true. As you know my family has been doing this for years and years in Brooklyn. The thing I missed most when I moved to Fl. was being with all my cousins on a Sunday. As it turns out we little by little all moved to Fl. and still have our family together on Sundays. Brothers, sisters, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandpa (my dad) and of course Bailey makes for a wonderful family dinner. As you are well aware of, our Sunday meals start at 3:00 and don’t end till about 8 or 9:00. What can I say, thats Italian.

I live for Sunday Dinners! I start around 3 or 4 cooking, my husband at the island, we pop open a bottle of wine after a little while. The kids wander in, this week I had them making a chocolate cake for dessert while I was prepping dinner. We end up eating around 7 and as much as I look forward to enjoying the meal I never want the time to end! It really is what I look forward to all week.
