Nourishing a Healthy Soul #SundaySupper #Nourish2Flourish

2017 is all about nourishing a healthy soul.

It’s almost wedding time over here and we couldn’t be more excited. We are less than two months away and experiencing so much emotion, so much love  in anticipation of the big day. It is a wonderful thing to plan a wedding with your daughter. Seeing her dream come to life detail by detail, plan by plan has been an experience I will forever cherish.

Alex’s surprise engagement during our 4th Food Wine Conference at Rosen Shingle Creek was a truly magical moment. To see the look of complete surprise on her face when she saw her fiance, priceless. Our family was on the eighth floor watching and, of course, crying a bit.

As with most moments that move us, these memorable occasions often make us reflect on our own lives. I am so proud of the business I have grown and nourished in the last five years. In many ways, my business is like my four children. What it needed when it was an infant is different than what it needed when it became a toddler and again, as a teenager. Like raising my four children, I have poured my heart and soul into it. The engagement made me take a look at myself and realize that I have focused so much time and energy into Sunday Supper but I have not taken any time to work on me. While I am setting a great example for my children in work and dedication, I knew there could be improvements in health and exercise.

Once that thought was planted, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. But where to begin? When I calculated the last time I exercised… let’s just say, it was not in this decade. And so it began, nourishing a healthy soul became really important to me. I started by making time for daily morning walks and then added yoga. One of the hardest things for me was sharing my journey on social media. I worried I would put my journey out there and what if I didn’t follow through? What would my followers think? So in the beginning, I would post instagrams like this one but never mention my goal. It was almost as if I was afraid of holding myself accountable. I knew once I started talking about it on social media, I had to stick to it and quite honestly, that scared me a bit.

After seeing the difference in how I felt in the first couple of months, I started to share daily insta stories and I hoped my posts would encourage others. Look at me and how daring I am to put this out there.  This is something I would never have done just a couple of months before. Day by day I started to feel better and I looked forward to my daily walks.

It was right around this time I also started to think about what I was eating. While I wouldn’t consider myself an unhealthy eater, I knew there was room for improvement. For whatever reason, the one meal that always got me was breakfast. I love a good bagel with cream cheese or toast with butter. As I started to see a change in my habits, my body started craving different foods. Vegetables and protein were more satisfying to me. With a packed schedule, I needed easy options to eat healthy.

Nourish Bowls  quickly became a favorite. They are a delicious warm meal with fresh veggies, grains and sauce ready in 3-4 minutes. I love them! No dicing, chopping and cooking these veggies. Everything I need is right in the bowl and the combinations of flavors are fabulous. They have become a favorite for breakfast with a poached egg on top or lunch and dinner with salmon or sliced steak on top. This January my intention for the year is Nourishing a Healthy Soul and Nourish Bowls are a delicious part of my plan.

Reasons I love Nourish Bowls:

  • They only take three minutes to make – perfect for a healthy quick dinner.
  • Every bowl is packed with vegetables and grains, making them complete meals.
  • Nourish Bowls only require microwave cooking – your kids can now make a nutritious dinner all by themselves!
  • The company is majority woman-owned – we love all the girl power behind the scenes at Nourish Bowls.
  • All the bowls come with their own sauce – they are packed with flavor.
